My latest rod building project was a nymphing rod. The pure specs you already know from the headline. The blank is a from NEXTackle. Even though the blank is not expensive, it definitely has the looks: A nice smooth yellow-brownish colour. In order to balance the long rod properly I opted for a down locking reel seat, which luckily has been the right choice. The grip is cylindric. I just like the classic look of this shape, will never go out of style. Since tone in tone is never really wrong for thread wraps I chose a chestnut nylon thread. I hoped it would turn darker after the epoxy has been applied, which indeed was the case. I applied one cosmetic wrap of golden thread which adds to the overall look. In order to support the classic minimalistic style of the build I applied epoxy only three times in very sparse amounts. I just don't like the teardrop shape of thread wraps on "factory rods" very much. The hardware is Pacbay. I just like their classic style of their guides and winding checks.
As a reel I fitted a Pflueger Medailist to the rod, which really looks nice together. As line I bought one of these ultra-modern and very thin nymphing lines. I will take a picture of the setup when I go fishing with it for the first time. Unfortunately I still have to wait 4 months. I really hope I can test fish this rod in Slovenia, where a trip is already planned for June. A marble trout would fit the colours really well :-)
